Ashcombe Scuffle is an annual charity event for 4×4’s and quad bikes, set in a 100 acres of pay and play off-roading bliss with steep hill climbs, bogs, water splashes, winch challenges and lots more. “Enough to entertain and amuse a hardened 4×4 veteran or allow anyone with a driving licence to have a go at seeing what their vehicle can do.”
With a choice of routes which vary in difficulty, you could set your own pace. Due to the woodland conditions on the grounds, this year’s events have had to be cancelled. Forestry work stops play, however, bookings for small private groups that were booked for 2017 are still being honoured, it’s believed no new bookings are being taken though.
Ralph Rayner posted the following statement on Facebook explaining the reasons behind suspending the 2017 scuffle event:
As many of you are aware we have had serious issues with woodland damage partly caused by the many events we have run in the last few years combined with high winds and soft ground conditions.
Unfortunately, we have had to take the decision to suspend the Ashcombe Scuffles in 2017.
At this time there is extensive forestry work going on in the woods with re-building of forest tracks and replanting to follow. Regrettably, this means that we have to let everything settle down and recover fully. I’m very sorry but this is the only sensible option open to us.
Private Group bookings (for small groups) are still valid this year. These dates have been already been fully allocated for 2017.
We will reappraise the situation next year.
Best wishes and most of all many thanks for your very kind support and participation.”
Hopefully we will see the return of the Ashcombe Scuffle Off Road Event in 2018! Here’s a video from the 2016 winter event!
