Nissan Pick Up Stranded On Beach In Burnham On Sea

Two children were rescued from a 4×4 truck yesterday after it had become stuck in mud on the beach on Burnham-On-Sea. You can see the rescue attempt in the video below.

The vehicle, was traversing across a section of beach that cars are not permitted when it got bogged down in the mud near Maddock’s Slade at 3.40pm yesterday.

Crews from BARB Search & Rescue and Burnham Coastguard attended the scene where the Nissan Navara had become stranded, Coastguard station manager Dave Welland said that the “driver put his family at unnecessary risk” had the tide been coming in rather than going out, this incident could have had a tragic outcome.

Mr Welland stated: “We wouldn’t dream of driving our vehicles that far out on the sand. That section of the beach is fine for walkers but not vehicles.

“There are a lot of soft patches. If it had been high tide his car would have been washed away by the water.” He has also urged other drivers to keep to the allocated parking and to stay off the beach.
