Exeter 4×4 Driver Dies During Vehicle Roll On Hill Climb

A  66-year-old man has died in whilst competing in an organised hill climb event on Dartmoor, near Exeter. The man from East Devon was taking part in the climb at Clifford Bridge, near Moretonhampstead, at around 2.30pm on Saturday when he was thrown through the open-top of the vehicle and ended up trapped beneath what is believed to be a 4×4 kit car.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene before his body was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, the man has not yet been named but his next of kin have been informed.

It is believed that another man was also taken to the RD&E.

The incident is now under investigation by Devon and Cornwall Police specialist crash investigation team to examine both the scene and the vehicle. The Health and Safety Executive has also been informed and will be looking into this tragic accident.

Update: Details have emerged that the vehicle involved was not a 4×4 but actually a Marlin trails car, this does not make the incident any less tragic however, our thoughts are with the mans family.
